Batavia is a city as simple as the windmills
it once made, giving it all the easy-going qualities of a small town. Yet,
it is as complex as the atom smashing done at the Fermi National
Accelerator Laboratory in its southeastern corner. Batavia is also a city
of fine homes. They range from gracious, turn-of-the-century mansions to
executive-style homes with three- and four-car garages, and from ranch and
split-level homes to luxury townhouses, condominiums, and apartments.
The city has a highly rated public school system, plus excellent private
facilities. With more than 150 acres of parks within the city and
thousands of acres of forest preserve around it, Batavians enjoy some of
the finest recreation opportunities anywhere.
The Randall Road corridor, on Batavia's west side, explodes with new
shopping centers and new subdivisions of homes, while in the downtown area
along the Fox River, resident volunteers lay brick walkways and build
staunch timber overlooks at the Batavia Riverwalk that enhance the beauty
and restfulness of the area.
